Why Posture Correction?

Got Posture?

Your posture is a window into your spine and nervous system. Any postural distortions tell us which way your spine is bent, where the kinks are in you spinal cord, which shuts down energy to your bodies vital organs and tissues. Pain, sickness and ill health are the eventual results.

Medical Research:

Poor Posture Linked to higher Death Rates!

Here’s what the team of four medical doctors and one doctor of public health concluded after evaluating 1300 older subjects followed for an average of 4.2 years:

Older adults with even a slight Hyperkyphosis (Forward Head Posture) have 144% greater rate of untimely death!

In Fact:

  • Hyperkyphosis (Forward Head Posture) increases death rate due to arteriosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries, by a whopping 240%!

  • The greater the Hyperkyphosis (Forward Head Posture) the greater the rate of death!

  • Hyperkyphosis (Forward Head Posture) reflect an increased rate of physiological aging.

  • Hyperkyphosis and forward head posture predicts an increased rate of death!

  • Specific care targeted at improving Hyperkyphosis (Forward Head Posture) could result in reducing death rates!

"...My Posture Has Improved Dramatically..."

I returned to Gold Coast Chiropractic Center in October 2006 with persistent headaches and noticeably, bad, forward head posture. Years of graphic design and sitting at my computer had taken a toll. I didn’t realize how bad my posture was until Dr. David showed me my x-rays.

Wow, after three months of consistent corrective care, my headaches have vanished, my posture has improved dramatically, and I can think more clearly, as well. This was magnificent! Other People have noticed and have commented on the improved postural changes. Having better posture has not only improved my appearance, but it’s improved my “mental posture” of my mind, will, and emotions.

Each day of my life progressively gets better. Stress no longer affects me as before. All of this is because of God’s love, my choices, and Dr. David’s corrective care.

Thank you,

Mark Griffo

The Power of Posture

“The Impact of Positive Sagittal balance (Forward Head Posture) in Adult Spinal Deformity”

Journal-Spine: September 15, 2005:30(18): 2024-9 Glassman SD, Bridwell K, Dimar JR, Horton W, Berven S, Schwab F.

Key Points:

  1. “All measures of health status showed significantly poorer scores as the forward head deviation increased (a.k.a. Forward Head Posture).

  1. “There was clear evidence of increased pain and decreased function as the magnitude of forward head posture increased.”

  1. “This study shows that although even mildly forward head posture is somewhat detrimental, severity of symptoms increases with progressive forward head posture.”

“Posture affects...every physiologic function from breathing to normal hormonal production!”1.

Despite considerable evidence that posture affects physiology and function, the significant influence of posture on health is not addressed by most physicians. In fact, neither comprehensive postural nor structural evaluation is a routine part of training in physical diagnosis…”

“Observation on the striking influence of postural mechanics on function and symptomatology have led to our hypothesis that posture affects and moderates every physiologic function from breathing to normal hormonal production. The most significant influences of posture are upon respiration, oxygenation, and sympathetic function (i.e. The nerves that control all your organs). In addition, spinal pain headache, mood, blood pressure, pulse, lung capacity are among the functions most easily influenced by posture. Ultimately, it appears that homeostasis and autonomic regulation are intimately connected with posture. Many of these symptoms, including pain, maybe moderated or eliminated by improved posture.”1

Need I Say More?

“I had a bad case of forward head posture…”

I first came to Gold Coast Chiropractic Center in June of 2009, the end of my sophomore year, at the advice of a dentist friend. Her son Jeffrey had good success with Dr. Melendez’s posture correction program. She observed my poor posture and recommended a consultation with Dr. Melendez. I had a bad case of forward head posture and was tilted on one side of my body. I didn’t fully realize the significance and severity of my condition until someone recognized and commented on bad posture and referred me for consultation. Looking back, this negatively affected my ability to play tennis. Also, the recurring and constant stuffy sinuses and loss of energy I experienced were common effects of my spinal condition that I didn’t realize were connected. My well-being was not at my best and mentally I was anxious and suffered from stress because my health was suffering from my poor posture and spinal subluxations.

Since participating in Dr. Melendez’s posture and spinal correction program, my stress management, spinal posture and sinuses have improved immensely.

Thank you,

Aaron Briggs
